What? You want to know about me? Me? Well, I'm flattered, really. So, where to begin...hmmm, well I was born in a small town in Nebraska....oh, that's probably not what you're after. Well then, let me see. My name is James and I live in Colorado, a beautiful state when its warm and absolutely gorgeous when its snowing! I started painting nearly 17 years ago, took about 13 years off, and started up professionally in 2003. So I suppose that means I've really only been painting for about 5 years now. I'm married to a wonderful woman and have a cat (if you couldn't guess) named Calvin. As of May 2008 I finally finished my degree and obtained my teaching license. Thus, I am now a Middle School Humanities teacher at Adams City Middle School here in Colorado! My primary interests (besides my wife, cat and teaching) include playing video games, the Star Wars Saga (all of them, I'll freely admit that I loved Episode I), Native American history (in which I majored), World of Warcraft (its cyber-crack I swear) and painting miniatures. I also attend the Colorado Renaissance Festival at least three times a year (and yes, in costume). My wife and I even got married there in 2001. For those who were wondering (yes the two or three of you out there), Painting Raven came about through the eBay random naming system. It is NOT a Native American name nor would I ever claim it to be! As an American Indian Historian I have too much respect for Native Americans and their culture. With that in mind, here's how the name came about. It was hard coming up with a name that the eBay system would use and its random naming system asked me for a favorite animal and hobby. Within a few clicks painting_raven was born. For everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask concerning the Raven click here. I paint just about any type of figure out there and on occasion you'll find a new diorama from me, since I love putting them into scenes. Since I'm now a full time teacher I don't get a lot of time to paint, but you'll find me painting during the summers and whenever I need a break from the kiddos. Occasionally I'll even put my work into a competition here locally (Genghis Con typically) and since 2004 I've repeatedly won awards for my work (check out the Winner's Circle section in the Gallery). So, now that you've learned way more then you probably wanted to know, get back to browsing! |
